Clothing budget adjustments

Because of price increases over the last year, the budget for company clothing has been increased by 20%. This adjustment is made automatically in Vandeputte's system so you do not have to do anything for this.

Hot weather

Temperatures are steadily climbing above 25 degrees these days. Therefore, to avoid sun stroke, sunburn or dehydration, we must anticipate this.

  • Drink plenty of water. Especially when performing strenuous activities and with a lot of fluid loss, drinking is very important.
  • Grease yourself or cover your skin so you don't get sunburned. Your body can better use the energy for recovering from sunburn for other things.
  • Anticipate the weather. If possible, perform works in the sun in the morning and place yourself in a cooler place at noon.

Working with hazardous products

In April, we had JLG SMS audit. As with any audit, a number of action points came up. There are some points we need to pay attention to together regarding hazardous goods.

1. When placing hazardous products in a hazardous goods cabinet, the products should always be removed from the cardboard boxes.

Should a fire break out in the cabinet, the boxes promote the fire.

2. Spray cans may remain on work carts if they meet the following conditions:

- It is a flammable product

- It is used daily

- One can per product (no stock)

If the above conditions are not met, the products must be stored in appropriate cabinet.

Incident AGCO

The scenario below played out in our work hall last week:

A tractor was attached to the overhead crane using two tools. A colleague had only detached one tool and had forgotten to detach the second tool from the back of the tractor. He wanted to attach the tools to another tractor, so he operated the overhead crane to the left. This caused the back of the tractor to be pulled along.
Two other co-workers were working on the back of that same tractor at the time. They were able to jump away just in time. They immediately yelled STOP, the two colleagues had not seen themselves that the tractor was still attached at the rear, but had given the overhead crane operator a "GO" to operate the overhead crane. Because the front of the tractor was still on supports, the tractor did not land on the ground.

Always keep the following points in mind before operating an overhead crane:

  • Training
  • Overloading the crane = prohibited
  • Pay attention to the hoisting speed!
  • Optimal hooking up
  • Prevent cables or lifting belts from being damaged by sharp corners or edges of load.
  • Remove loose objects on the load beforehand and never transport persons on top of the load.
  • Lifting vertically
  • Signalizer if necessary
  • Keep yourself and your colleagues out of the drop zone.
  • Always check that the brake, limit switches, etc. are working properly.
  • Never use the emergency stop as a stop button (only if necessary).
  • Never leave suspended loads unattended.
  • Have rolling bridges, lifting accessories and hoisting gear inspected quarterly (even if used sporadically).
